Generals Cup 2017

It was a rainy night in December when I got the call wanting to know if I would be interested in being an XO in Hudson FL. in March. Without hesitation I responded "of course I will and let me see how many players from the South East region would want to start the year off in FLorida. " We had months to prepare and organize for Generals Cup in the call went out to the players and teams to band together for 3 days of paintball. March came upon us fast, as all events seem to do, and we had a large caravan of over 17 players headed to FL for that 595 mile hike. Just from our area.

The road trip had begun. It was an adventure that deserves it's own story. We arrived in Hudson FL greeted by players from all over, Great Lakes region arrived first, and they had roped off an area perfect for the our camp. Then shortly thereafter the Deep South region arrived, in force, and has even stepped up to assist with command roles. On Friday we had 3 regions from the Valken Corps in Hudson FL. ready to do what ever it takes to make this an epic game. As the night went on, the North East Region, Mid West Region, and more players started showing up.Then I realized, we have 5 or more regions of the Valken Corps represented in Hudson FL all running together, assisting each other, preparing the event and many of us had never met ...that's a brotherhood.

This is why I love the sport of paintball and Valken Corps. It brings everyone together from all walks of life and areas of this great country making forever friendships. Here we are 17 guys from the Carolinas knowing we have a ton guys we just meet covering our backs. That is an amazing feeling, and testament to the power of players keeping it all about camaraderie.

Personally, This was my first public event as a new Valken Corps Regional Commander and also my first event back since I lost my 13 year old son. It was an emotional time to say the least. Everyone outside of paintball didn't know how it would go, I will tell you this. I was with family. My Valken Corps family, many of whom I had never even met, kept the genuine brotherhood of “home” for the entire weekend. Gator Paintball Extreme and the producer Rick Fernandez, did something special for me and my late son. I was speechless.  This was one of the most memorable weekends of my life.

Life is often measured in memories we make with others. Through the Valken Corps network I was able to share with many new friends in an experience and event I will cherish for many years to come. I invite all of you to try something new this year. Connect with more players and seek opportunities to make your own new memories. If I can help in any way please do not hesitate to reach out and ask. That's why we volunteer in the Valken Corps, for you.
